2018 is right around the corner! Carey has been extremely busy this year, finally coming out of the shadows to promote her first feature film since 2015: Dee Rees’ “Mundbound”. As the year is ending, I thought it would be great to go over everything our girl has been up to these 12 last months. Click on ‘Continue Reading’ below to read the whole review post.

She started off the year of 2017 by promoting “Mudbound” at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival in January. During her first day there (January 21), she swung by the Variety Studio. She later attended the film’s premiere alongside director Dee Rees and fellow cast members, such as Garrett Hedlund, Jason Clarke and Mary J. Blige (x). Day 3 of Sundance was a very busy one for Carey. She first stopped by Indiewire in Conversation, then she attended AT&T At The Lift and last but not least, the 2017 3rd Annual Horizon Award Presentation (x). On March 21, Deadline revealed that Carey had been set to star David Hare’s ‘Collateral’, which will premiere in 2018 (x).


In March, Carey covered So It Goes Magazine (Issue 9), in which she was interviewed by “Mudbound” co-star Garrett Hedlund (x) and on May 28, Carey turned 32 years old. On June 1, it was revealed that Carey had joined “On The Other Side” as as Kate Webb (x). On September 5, the women of “Mudbound” (Carey, Mary J. Blige and Dee Rees) were featured on the cover of Variety (x), and on September 6, the first “Mudbound” Official Teaser was unveiled by Netflix (x).

September was also marked by the 2017 Toronto Film Festival, which Carey attended to promote “Mudbound”. On September 11, she attended both the ‘Mudbound’ Press Conference & Photocall and Variety’s ‘Mudbound’ Cast Dinner (x). The next day, on September 22, Carey attended the “Mudbound” Premiere, still during the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival (x).


On October 5, Carey and her fellow cast members attended the “Mudbound” European Premiere during the 61st BFI London Film Festival. Following the Premiere, she also attended the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences New Members Party at Spencer House (x). On October 10, Carey attended Cartier’s Celebration of Resonances de Cartier in New York City (x) and on the 12th, she attended Netflix’s ‘Mudbound‘ Screening during the New York Film Festival (x).


On November 2, Carey attended the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards 2017 where she was honored with the Philanthropy Award (x). Carey, Garrett Hedlund, Mary J. Blige and Dee Rees were photographed for the New York Times, still in November (x). On November 3, Variety exclusively revealed that Carey had been cast as Gloria Steinem in Dee Rees’ “An Uncivil War” (x). On November 4, Carey attended both Deadline’s The Contenders 2017 Panel to talk Netflix’s “Mudbound“ and the Dessert Reception Sponsored by Netflix (x).

On November 5, she attended the 21st Annual Hollywood Film Awards where “Mudbound” was honored with the Hollywood Breakout Ensemble Award (x). On November 6, Carey attended AG, Vanity Fair And Netflix’s Celebration Director Dee Rees’ ‘Mudbound’ (x) and on November 7, she was a guest on ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ to promote “Mudbound” (x). The next day, on November 8, Carey, Dee Rees, Mary J. Blige, Jason Mitchell and Garrett Hedlund attended “Mudbound” Special Screening held at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California (x). On November 9, “Mudbound” opened the AFI FEST 2017 (x). It was also announced that Carey would return to the London stage in 2018 with “Girls & Boys” (x).


On November 11, Carey attended the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences’ 9th Annual Governors Awards in Hollywood. She was wearing Giambattista Valli Fall 2017 Haute Couture (x). On November 13, she was a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers (x) and on November 17, “Mudbound” was released on Netflix. On November 17, Carey attended both the ‘Mudbound’ BAFTA Film Screening in New York City (x) and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Official ‘Mudbound’ Screening (x). On November 19, Carey attended a Special Screening and Reception Celebrating “Mudbound” in New York City (x) and on November 22, she spoke at the UN Headquarters in New York City to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (x). It was also revealed that Carey was going to be on the cover of both C Magazine (Winter Issue) (x) and Harper’s Bazaar UK (January ’18 Issue) (x).


The 2017 Annual IFP Gotham Awards were held on November 27, and the “Mudbound” cast was awarded the Special Gotham Jury Award for Ensemble Performance (x). On November 28, our girl attended a New York Special Screening and Reception for Netflix’s ‘Mudbound’ (x) and on November 29, the full line-up for Sundance Film Festival 2018 was announced, and Paul Dano’s “Wildlife” was announced as being part of their U.S. Dramatic Competition (x). Last but not least, Carey was announced as the cover star of Vogue Australia (January ’18 Issue) (x).

That’s a wrap on 2017, but what’s next for Carey in 2018? She’ll be in “Wildlife“, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, in “Collateral” and in “Girls & Boys” on West End in London.
